Music Mondays!

Albert Ayler recorded this track for his 1968 album New Grass.

The jazz saxophonist had previously dwelled primarily in the avant-garde, but New Grass marked a brief foray into more commercial musical genres such as gospel, R&B, and funk.

Although jazz critics accused him of selling out, it is more likely that Ayler was paying homage to his musical heritage. Ayler’s talents grew out of his youth spent in the church band and his first gig was R&B, not jazz.
