The Good Neighbor Initiative is a town wide initiative at the beginning of the academic year sponsored by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Community Involvement at UNC-Chapel Hill. The program, which began in 2004, is an effort to promote positive living experiences in those neighborhoods where students and non-students live in close proximity.

The Good Neighbor Initiative includes a door-to-door walk around to over 1,000 homes in various neighborhoods of Chapel Hill and Carrboro involving over 80 volunteers to welcome new students to the neighborhoods and share resources/tips on how to be a good neighbor in our community. The  walk around is followed a few weeks later with the Neighborhood Night Out Block Party at Hargraves Community Center in the heart of the Northside neighborhood.
