Heidi Dodson grew up in the Missouri Bootheel, but came to Carrboro/Chapel Hill from Urbana, Illinois to finish writing her dissertation (Illinois was too cold!). She had heard about the Jackson Center from Hudson Vaughan when they both conducted oral history interviews for a project on African American farm ownership. Heidi started volunteering for Heavenly Groceries in 2014, and last year began helping the Center organize their oral history archives. She currently works with the Oral History Trust in a variety of ways. Heidi loves working at the Center because of its commitment to community history and social justice. After moving around the country for jobs and school, she hopes to make North Carolina her permanent home, especially since it has so many fabulous places to hike!
